It is one of the most economical NDT methods. A low viscosity liquid (penetrant) is applied to the surface of a test piece. Liquid Penetrant Inspection uses this capillary action to allow the penetrant to enter into fissures and voids that are open to the surface. After a dwelling time, the excess penetrant is removed, any remaining penetrant in the voids will flow back out exposing the indication. There are a variety of techniques included in liquid penetrant testing available depending on the type of NDT inspection and the kind of flaws a technician is aiming to find.

NDT PT LIQUID PENETRANT TESTING COURSE CURRICULUM
NDT PT Course Objective: To acquaint the student with the use and function of liquid penetrant testing.
Outline: The 12-hour NDT PT course consists of the required instruction for the 4-hour Level 1 course and the required instruction for the 8-hour level 2 course.
The student's course progress is monitored through a Learning Management System (LMS) and the student is issued a certificate of completion after finishing the required lessons. Students are not limited to a single viewing, they may repeat any lesson multiple times over a four month enrollment.
