  Through ICC Credentialing, the ICC Commercial Building certification identifies inspectors responsible for examining the blueprints for every project brought into their office. jurisdiction, assuring that the building is compliant with the International Building Code, also known as “the Code,” which is shortened to IBC.

  ICC Commercial Building inspection covers a building or construction on a portion of industrial real estate called a commercial building. These structures are designed to make a profit, either through appreciation of their value or through leasing revenue. Typically, a commercial structure will fall into the following five categories: office buildings, retail/restaurant, multifamily dwellings, land, and miscellaneous. This certification is used in nearly all construction projects worldwide. 

  This 50-hour course comprises 14 lessons, 14 instant feedback quizzes, 3 quiz banks, and a final exam with a question bank of more than 300 questions. Upon completion of the course, the student will receive a certificate of completion from Atlas training ™.

How to become a Commercial Building Inspector?

Construction experience is recommended but not required. Register now and take our ICC Building Inspector Online Training Class!

Credentials are valid for three (3) years and must be renewed on or before the expiration date to remain current.

Accruing CEUs

During the three (3) year period prior to the renewal processing date, you must accrue the number of continuing education units (CEUs) required for your certificate. Renewal is achieved by participating in continuing education and professional development activities. For example, a seminar you attended to earn CEUs must have been within the three (3) years prior to the renewal processing date (when the CEU becomes inactive).

You may renew your credentials at different times, but each renewal date is treated as a separate application. For example, if you have six credentials and renew two certifications on X date and four certifications on Y date, you must have 3.0 CEUs for X date and a 3.0 additional CEUs for Y date. 

Note: You must keep documents and records of each activity during the three (3) year renewal period. CEU applications are subject to random audits. If proof of CEUs cannot be provided, the renewal will be voided and your certifications will revert to their previous status.
