ICC S1CY COURSE OVERVIEW

 

Through ICC Credentialing, the ICC Bolting and Structural Steel (S1C) certification identifies individuals with a broad knowledge base of steel shapes and products, bolts and bolted parts, tensioning methods, limitations, and inspection methodologies.

ICC S1C covers steel shapes and products used in construction and the bolting associated with each joint during building erection. Additionally, this certification covers critical steps such as pre-installation verification, installation, post-tensioning, and regulations. An ICC S1C inspector is also responsible for high-strength bolting, snug tight joints, slip critical joints, Turn-of-the-Nut methods, and DTIs. This certification is used in nearly all construction projects worldwide.

This 35-hour course comprises 20 lessons, 20 instant feedback quizzes, and a final exam with a question bank of more than 200 questions.

REQUIREMENTS FOR STRUCTURAL STEEL AND BOLTING SPECIAL INSPECTOR CERTIFICATION:

1. Pass the GR - Special Inspector General Requirements Exam OR hold an active ICC Special Inspector Certification

2. Pass the S1C – Structural Steel and Bolting Codes Exam

3. Pass the S1P – Structural Steel and Bolting Exam

 

Credentials are valid for three (3) years and must be renewed on or before the expiration date to remain current.

Accruing CEUs

During the three (3) year period prior to the renewal processing date, you must accrue the number of continuing education units (CEUs) required for your certificate. Renewal is achieved by participating in continuing education and professional development activities. For example, a seminar you attended to earn CEUs must have been within the three (3) years prior to the renewal processing date (when the CEU becomes inactive).

You may renew your credentials at different times, but each renewal date is treated as a separate application. For example, if you have six credentials and renew two certifications on X date and four certifications on Y date, you must have 3.0 CEUs for X date and a 3.0 additional CEUs for Y date. 

Note: You must keep documents and records of each activity during the three (3) year renewal period. CEU applications are subject to random audits. If proof of CEUs cannot be provided, the renewal will be voided and your certifications will revert to their previous status.
